Defined as any type of energy that comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished such as sunlight or wind, the growing demand for renewables, like solar energy, is driving both market demand as well as the lifestyle choices we make every day. From emerging economies such as India and Brazil to our own backyard right here in Kelowna – sustainable practices such as comprehensive solar design and other low-carbon technologies have become a beacon as we begin the global shift towards a cleaner energy future.
As Canada sets out on a transformative journey to reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, we need a powerful boost from solar energy and energy-storage technologies. To pursue the least-cost path to this objective, Canada must decarbonize and double its electricity production. This expanded electricity production is needed to help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions in transportation, buildings, and industry. Luckily, this country has massive, untapped potential for low-cost wind and solar energy.
